The following are links to interviews with Demetri:
Interview by Steve Heisler 25 February 2009-
Steve Heisler from the A.V. Club talks to Demetri about his new TV series ‘Important Thing With Demetri Martin.’ He tells why he got into standup and what differences he has encountered jumping between standup, sketches and movies. The interview briefly touches on Demetri’s role in the up and coming Ang Lee film, ‘Taking Woodstock’ claiming he “Suddenly, I found myself in upstate New York on the set of this movie, wearing clothes from the ’50s, playing this character, and I’m thinking, “Wow, this is a once-in-a-lifetime situation.” I mean, I’ve been in maybe three movies, and I had about two scenes in each of those, tops. More like one scene. Yeah, I think I average a scene and a half per movie. And now I’m in this one and I’m in like, just about every scene.” Demetri also reveals his palindrome creation technique … sort of. Check out the full article here.

Comedy and the Family: Demetri Martin 1 February 2007 -
Audio Interview by Robert Siegel with Demtri, his Mum Lillian and Yiayia(Greek for Grandmother) Dinah. Demetri talks about dropping out of law school and his Mum and Yiayia share their thoughts on the situation. This is a hilarious interview with his Yiayia Dinah turning out to be a very harsh critic. In return to the question “Do you agree with your daughter that Demetri is her funniest child?”, she states “No hes not funny. She never thought he was funny … my son he never laughs, how can he be funny.”” A hilarious, perhaps miscommunication. To which Demetri replies “Thanks Yiayia… She keeps it real. Yiayia has the honest lens of age” A must hear interview from the team at npr.org. Listen to it here.
Interview by Sean O'Neal of the A.V Club 29 November 2006-
Demetri discusses his style of humour, his law school days, the future of his two NBC pilots and even answers a question in a palindrome. The added comments can get annoying, but there’s some good information in it if your willing to skip anything written [in brackets].

Demetri Interview January 2006 -
Interview covers some topics from Demetri’s ‘If I’ one-man-show, details his love of skateboarding and reveals the more analytical side to Demetri as he starts to break down his jokes into their compounded letters and considers their meaning. This is much more serious and personal interview, covering aspects such as Demetri’s religious views as well as lighter topics such as his role as a ‘Trendspotter’. Read the full article here.
Gothamist 20 October 2005 -
An over the phone interview between the Gothamist and Demetri during his on-man-show ‘These are Jokes’. At the time he was in the process of building his website (see it here). (Check out his article here titled ‘How to Build a Joke’ from Sept 26 2005 ) and discusses his plans to rewrite his own version of the dictionary called “Demetrionary”. Check it out here.
Also see more current interview with the Gothamist here.
Ben Kharakh and Demetri 24 November 2005 -
Ben Kharakh talks to Demetri about where his passion for comedy developed, growing up in New Jersey, his style of comedy and how it has developed. This is a very insightful interview and I strongly recommend it. It’s not too long a read either. Check it out here.

A short and sweet interview more focused on his so called ‘useless talents’ than the Perrier Award. Read the full article here.

DM, Stand-Up Guy by Jesse Baker 11 July 2004-
Another NPR audio interview with Demetri, this time with a bit more original information which is hard to find these days. NPR describes him as the voice of geeration Y and include some of his jokes, such as bad news cake. The web extra component is a poorly edited soundtrack of a few of his jokes. It provided a good comparison between his longer jokes and shorter, more refined jokes, but if you’re concerned about download size it’s not worth it for the amount of jokes you get. Check it out here.
A week long journal in the life of Demetri Martin 25 May 2004 -
A hilarious insight into the early mind of Demetri Martin with the bonus of funny pictures. The diary entry is an excellent read, regardless of its length, and was written while he was a writer for ‘Late Night with Conan O’Brien and working on his one-man-show ‘Spiral Bound’. Follows his life in apartment 22 (palindrome) and begins with his audition, or lack there of, with Juliette Lewis in L.A., following his everyday routine from home to work and on his beloved skateboard (including details of his meals as he makes “a mental note to avoid mixing pretzels and strawberry yogurt in the future.”) It reveals his innermost thoughts, claiming he sometimes ponders if his mum “thinks her son is an idiot. One of those times was last night while I banged a drum alone in my bedroom.” and shares his “sweaty, desperate wizard” birthday details. The journal concludes with two important lessons: “1: I am simple—I like to write jokes and tell jokes. For better or worse, that's how I'm made. And, 2: Like grapefruit slush, it's worth the work, but probably better when prepared in private.” Read it here.
Audio Interview with Demetri
Audio Interview with Demetri and 103.7fm about Demetri’s new ‘Important Things With Demetri Martin’ tv show and about his previous shows in Seattle. They discuss his rise in comedy from doing a Laundromat comedy “ambush” at King Laundry on 7th Street in NY to learning to write for himself in a tv show. A nice interview with a lot of personality. Listen to it here.
Hoos News-
Video Interview from the Hoos News, a college news show, on which Demetri featured while performing at their school on his ‘These Are Jokes’ tour. The sound quality is poor (probably because he is using a pen as a microphone) and it contains only a brief amount of detail, however he does talk about his script writing and his potential book of drawings. It is a cute interview, but I would recommend skipping the rest of the video. Demetri features at the 7 minute mark. Watch it here via Google videos.
Audio Interview -
An audio interview with a strange theme song. Old interview with some jokes that haven’t been covered in any of the other interviews. Demetri features at about the 1/3 mark.Listen to it here.
